Real experiences from volunteers who taught English and lived with Vietnamese host families.
Jose Acevedo
"My name is Jose born in Mexico and grew up in USA. I’ve had an amazing experience at Homestay, and it truly feels like a second home in Hanoi. I’ve stayed here three different times — July 2018, July 2023, and July 2024, and each visit has been special in its own way. What makes this place truly unique is the opportunity to connect with local people and experience authentic Vietnamese culture. I loved learning about local food, traditions, daily life, and customs, and meeting travelers and locals from many different backgrounds. Every stay has been full of meaningful conversations, cultural exchange, and great memories. Cuong (Harry) is incredibly friendly, kind, and welcoming. From the first moment, he makes you feel comfortable and at home. He is always willing to help, share stories, explain traditions, and introduce guests to local experiences that you would never find in a hotel. If you are looking for a real cultural experience in Hanoi, not just a place to sleep, I highly recommend Homestay English, I’ll definitely be back again!"

"Es war eine sehr schöne Erfahrung. Die Menschen waren offen, freundlich und man kam schnell ins Gespräch, auch wenn man selbst nicht so gut in Englisch ist. Der Austausch beim Englischunterrichten mit den Menschen war herzlich und freundlich. Nebenbei gab es sogar eine sehr süße Katze. "

"A nice place to meet locals and other travelers. The atmosphere is friendly, and I enjoyed learning more about Vietnamese culture. The cat is very cute. The rooms are separated by gender, with one bathroom per room. The female room has four bunk beds. It’s a good place to stay if you’re volunteering."
